Hey!!!! Who you calling a nerd?
I am a geek.
Minus the expanding waistline part. I'm still losing weight. And the beer. Also, i don't need glass, yet.

This.
Nerd implies you are good at something nerdy, but otherwise have a life. Geek implies that your life is consumed by your geekiness.
For example, I am a nerd. My friends from high school are what you may call geeks.

GEEK:
The word geek is a slang term, noting individuals as "a peculiar or otherwise odd person, especially one who is perceived to be overly obsessed with one or more things including those of intellectuality, electronics, gaming, etc."
Nerd:
Nerd is a term often bearing a derogatory connotation or stereotype, that refers to a person who passionately pursues intellectual activities, esoteric knowledge, or other obscure interests that are age inappropriate rather than engaging in more social or popular activities. Therefore, a nerd is often excluded from physical activity and considered a loner by peers.

WHAT!
Wikipedia has to say about nerd:
Wikipedia has to say about geek:
That being said I think there is quite a bit of overlap as all the geeks I have met and all the nerds I have met have been, or are obsessed with either Star Trek or Star Wars. I myself am obsessed with Star Trek (the earlier ones, none of the episodes introduced in Voyager or Enterprise). And these days everyone but super models seem to belong to either the obease or very-thin groups.

[...] It was only later, in the 1970s, that the word took on connotations of bookishness and social ineptitude. [...] They typically appear either to lack confidence or to be indifferent or oblivious to the negative perceptions held of them by others, with the result that they become frequent objects of scorn, ridicule, bullying, and social isolation. Some nerds show a pronounced interest in subjects which others tend to find dull or complex and difficult to comprehend, or overly mature for their age, especially topics related to science, disambiguation, mathematics and technology. On the opposite end of the spectrum, nerds may show an interest in activities that are viewed by their peers as immature for their age, such as trading cards, comic books, or role playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons and other things relating to fantasy and science fiction. They are also stereotyped for being obsessed with Star Trek, Star Wars, and other science fiction shows or movies. Nerds are often portrayed as unfit and either obese or very thin. Nerds are also sometimes portrayed as having symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder, such as by showing an extreme devotion to following rules.

The word geek is a slang term, noting individuals as "a peculiar or otherwise odd person, especially one who is perceived to be overly obsessed with one or more things including those of intellectuality, electronics, gaming, etc.[...] The Colbert Report, Richard Clarke said the difference between nerds and geeks is "geeks get it done". [...]Although being described as a geek tends to be an insult, the term has recently become more complimentary, or even a badge of honor, within particular fields. This is particularly evident in the technical disciplines, where the term is now often a compliment, denoting extraordinary skill.

Re: ~QUOTE # 3~
For the record I posted at the same time as you but it wouldn't take my post but it actually saved it for later posting. It is a huge coincidence that you and I posted nearly the same thing. That being said I did a much better job with the scrolly thing and all.
Re: ~QUOTE # 3~
Well, i keep in mind that wikipedia is written by the public (probably nerds).
Maybe its a geographical thing- pleisa used to live up here.
That chart is HILARIOUS!
I would say that in that chart of have been guilty of like 9 or 10 of those things at one time (not concurrently, and certainly not presently)
Zarky- i bet if you google "Start Trek Furry Fanfic" you'd have your story.
